Crossover Day: The 28th day of the 40-day legislative 2017 session is the last day for bills to move from one chamber to the other — that is, to cross over — and still have a path of possibly becoming law in the current year’s session. Crossover Day is created by a Senate rule. In years past, Crossover Day has been day 30 of the session, so from session to session the actual date for Crossover Day can change.
For a bill to make crossover day means the bill was favorably passed out of one body’s committee, and was then voted favorably, or passed out of the full legislative body.
While parliamentary maneuvering can possibly keep a bill alive past Crossover Day, making it from one side of the Capitol (House to Senate, or vice versa) to the other by the end of Crossover Day makes final passage in the current session much more likely.
On February 8, Brunswick-Glynn County Library Manager Lori Hull visited the State Capitol in Atlanta to represent our libraries at an event affectionately known as "Hot Dog Day." Public library staff from across Georgia serve our legislators Varsity hot dogs as we remind them about the important roles that libraries play in our communities. Pictured above, left to right, are State Librarian Julie Walker, State Representative Jeff Jones, and Lori Hull.

"Unfortunately Rep. Hogan and I were unsuccessful in obtaining $2 million in state funding from the House Appropriations Committee that would have been used for a much needed $4 million renovation project for our local library," explained Rep. Jones. "There is a possibility that the Senate may still appropriate the funds. And I want to give a big `Thank you` to the Glynn County Board of Commissioners for appropriating $1.5 million towards the project. We are fortunate that we have a vibrant, busy library in Glynn County."

Rep. Jeff Jones pledges to work to protect Georgia from potential coal ash disposal problems by sponsoring three pieces of coal-ash related legislation, to be introduced to the Georgia House of Representatives this session:
Judge Neil Gorsuch is an outstanding choice by President Trump to fill Antonin Scalia's seat on the Supreme Court. He is the kind of conservative America needs on the Supreme Court. In fact, I am personally, extremely pleased with every action President Trump has made since his swearing in. We are on a path to make America great again for everyone!

Dear Friend --
As we spend time with our family, loved ones and friends this Christmas season, we give all the praise and glory to God as we celebrate the birth of His son, Jesus Christ. We also give a special thanks to those who are serving in our Armed Forces for without them we would not be free. Also, thank you to our law enforcement and first responders who put their lives on the line everyday to protect and rescue us from difficult and dangerous situations.
We also feel a renewed sense of optimism about the future of our country this joyous season for we truly believe that America’s best days are ahead of us! All of us!
It's an honor to serve the people of Southeast Georgia, and indeed the entire State of Georgia. Thank you for your support, notes of encouragement and input - both when we agree and when we differ.
Lisa, Brant and I pray that you have a blessed Christmas season and a prosperous, happy and healthy 2017!
