SSI Township proposed at Grits and Issues

Glynn County’s delegation to the Georgia General Assembly is pushing for township over incorporation for St. Simons Island.
That was the collective message Sen. William Ligon and Reps. Alex Atwood and Jeff Jones, all St. Simons Island Republicans, delivered to the business community during the annual Grits and Issues event, hosted by the Brunswick-Golden Isles Chamber of Commerce.
“I personally support this concept. It avoids the full blown city issue but still gives authority to the residents,” Jones said. “It will help address the real issue — control over development on St. Simons Island..."
Creating a township would be a wiser route to take, they said, noting it would mitigate any negative effects incorporation may have on Brunswick, Sea Island or other unincorporated areas of the county. READ FULL STORY →

Senate and House District Legislators to Host Glynn County Town-Hall Meeting
(Brunswick, GA) Senator William Ligon, Representative Alex Atwood, and Representative-Elect Jeff Jones will host a Glynn County Town-Hall meeting on Tuesday, January 6, from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM at Old City Hall in downtown Brunswick.
This will be the last of a series of legislative town-halls in the Third Senate District before the Georgia General Assembly, which will begin Monday, January 12, under the Gold Dome in Atlanta.
“We look forward to hearing the concerns of Glynn County citizens,” stated Sen. Ligon. “Their voices can make a huge difference in state policies. We also will inform them of some of the issues that will likely come up this session. For example, Coastal Georgians have much at stake as we take up the issue of water storage in our aquifer, in other words, infusion of surface water into our pristine Floridan Aquifer. That issue, among many others, will need the active participation of citizens throughout the session."
"As has been our practice in the past, I am very happy to join State Senator William Ligon and Representative-Elect Jeff Jones in giving citizens an opportunity to express their concerns and ideas prior to the next legislative session," said Representative Atwood.
Senator Ligon will begin his third term in the Georgia Senate and has been elected by his colleagues as the Majority Caucus Chairman. Representative Atwood is also beginning his third term. Representative-Elect Jones is serving his first term in the Georgia House of Representatives and will take his oath of office when the 2015 Georgia General Assembly convenes on Monday, January 12, under the Gold Dome in Atlanta.
"I am both humbled and honored to co-host this town-hall with the Honorable Senator William Ligon and Representative Alex Atwood. It will be a very special opportunity for us to discuss the challenges and opportunities of the upcoming legislative session with the people we serve," stated Representative-Elect Jeff Jones.
The public is encouraged to attend the town-hall, ask questions, and bring up issues that may need attention during the 2015 Georgia General Assembly. Old City Hall is located at 1229 Newcastle Street in downtown Brunswick.
