OCTOBER 31, 2018--BRUNSWICK, GA – The Veterans Council of the Golden Isles will host its annual Veterans Day Parade and Ceremony on Monday, November 12, 2018, on Saint Simons Island, Georgia. Held for decades here in the Golden Isles, the event welcomes all citizens and veterans to this special parade and ceremony honoring all Military Veterans. It is an outstanding opportunity for children and youth to learn more about the service of these local heroes and to thank them for their dedication.

The event kicks off at 10:30 am with a Veterans Parade that will begin on Mallery Street from the ball fields’ park and continue to the Casino stage area near the Saint Simons Pier. The Veterans Day ceremony will begin promptly at 11:00 am at the Casino Park.

The parade and ceremony will be led by the United States Navy Color Guard from Submarine Group 10, Saint Marys, Georgia. Representatives from sixteen (16) Golden Isles Veterans groups will participate in the parade and ceremony.

The 2018 Guest of Honor is Submarine Group 10 Commander, Rear Admiral Jeffrey T. Jablon, United States Navy, Saint Marys, Georgia. He will represent all Veterans and the United States Navy as well as speaking at the ceremony. Two special individuals will be recognized on the stage.  The 2018 Veterans Council Veteran of the Year award recognizes a local individual who has excelled in both Civilian and Military Service accomplishments. This year’s recipient is U.S. Marine Corps and United States Air Force Veteran Lorin “Len” Taylor of Brunswick, Glynn County, Georgia.  The 2018 Outstanding Community Service Award will be presented to Katharine A. Trackwell of Brunswick, Glynn County Georgia for her extraordinary service to Veterans.

The Council invites all Coastal Georgia citizens to come and participate in this local Veterans Day Ceremonial Event. Some seating will be available, but you may want to bring a beach or lawn chair. This is a spectacular way for parents, grandparents and the entire family to thank Veterans and to use this a teaching moment for all of the children in the family. The Glynn County Schools are closed so that the children can attend this event
